Singer remembers Help along the way
She was known in Australia as the voice of Aotearoa, and now Caii-Michelle Gordon is releasing her first New Zealand-produced album, A Change is Gonna Come.
As a 17-year-old the singer from Tolaga Bay was whisked off to Australia 33 years ago to join the Tui Teka showband, and she has been entertaining people around the world ever since.
Vocal training in Los Angeles from the late Vivienne Greene (mother of Suzzaye Greene of the Supremes) extended her range to four octaves.
For her first single from the album Caii-Michelle she has done the classic Help as what she calls a big soft rock ballad.
Caii-Michelle says she’s already planning her next album of original songs, which will be recorded next year in Los Angeles and Aotearoa with arranger to the stars Dr Benjamin Wright, whose credits include Gladys Knight, Aretha Franklin and Michael Jackson’s Off the Wall album.
