New Plymouth's plan for a Maori ward looks set to be put to the vote.
Former Grey Power branch president Hugh Johnson says he is on track to collect more than the 2700 signatures needed to force a binding referendum on the issue.
He expects to hand over the petition with more than 4000 signatures to mayor Andrew Judd at the end of next week.
If the Maori ward proposal is voted down, the result will bind the council for six years.
