Wananga puts building pads on ipads
Te Wananga o Aotearoa has launched an app that will help level four carpentry trainees build a house.
He Atea Taonga, the wananga’s resource development team, designed the ipad app to replace book-based work and make course material more interactive with less text.
The meaning of technical terms is illustrated with graphics drawn and animations bring the building plans to life so the key points in the build process are highlighted.
Wananga spokesperson Paraone Gloyne says it could change the way carpentry is learned.
"You can look at how a house is built right from the foundation up. I can really see how it will provide insight to the tauira and the kaiako," he says.
Mr Gloyne says now He Atea Taonga has developed the app, the same platform can be used for other disciplines.
