Kapa haka goes pay per view
Aotearoa Kapa Haka Ltd hopes to cash in on the hunger of Maori expatriates for kapa haka.
It’s making the live streaming of this year’s Te Matatini Festival in Christchurch pay per view for internet users outside New Zealand and Australia, for a $10 daily fee.
Te Matatini Executive Director Darrin Apanui says the live streaming model was successfully tested in last year’s National Secondary School Kapa Haka competition and the Tamararo regional elimination.
Viewers in New Zealand and Australia will still get free live coverage on Maori Television, with the first three days broadcast on the Te Reo Channel and the website, and the final on the main Maori Television channel.
