Osborne National’s pick for Northland
National’s Northland candidate is citing the Maori and Pasifika Trades training initiative, faster broadband and investment in local roads and highways as ways national is helping growth and putting Northlanders into jobs.
Mark Osborne says National’s focus on investment and growth helped to create 7500 more jobs in Northland last year.
Mr Osborne, who is an asset manager for the Far North District Council, was selected by party members in Kerikeri on Saturday.
His opponents are arguing that National has neglected the seat, despite holding it for 50 years.
New Zealand First leader Winston Peters, who announced on Friday he would stand in the March 28 by-election, says the electorate has the lowest proportion of wage and salary earners in the country, half the schools are decile one and two, and average family income is $51,000 compared with $72,000 nationally.
