Bar set high for Te Matatini finalists
Forty five kapa haka, four days, it can only be Te Matatini.
The biennial Maori performing arts festival starts today in Christchurch.
Chief executive Darrin Apanui says ticket sales are running ahead of schedule, and he’s confident they will get the expected 30,000 spectators through the gates of North Hagley Park.
He says the top nine teams from 2013 have been seeded across the three pools, but there is no guarantee they will feature in the finals, given the quality of composition and performance shown across the board.
