Tainui measures housing need
Waikato Tainui is conducting a survey to get a picture of the housing needs and aspirations of its 67,000 members.
Executive chair Rahui Papa says the results will influence decision-making on issues like whether to target the purchase of state houses.
There could also be room for developing partnerships with banks and other institutions to help people into home ownership.
"We’re trying to lift them up up the whakapoutama so from homelessness into renting, from renting into home ownership, from mortgage to freehold houses. That puts people in good stead with the whanau, education, a lot of social problems just evaporate when people have a decent roof over their heads," Mr Papa says.
The short survey is available at the waikatotainui.com, and filling it in puts people in the draw for a $100 gift voucher to be spent at the Te Awa shopping mall in Te Rapa.
