Crown surrenders forest lease
The Crown has surrendered a 740 hectare forestry lease in the far north to the landowner.
Associate Primary Industries Minister Jo Goodhew says the lease signed in 1966 with Parengarenga A Incorporation was for a term of 99 years, but the incorporation negotiated in 1999 to end it once the first crop was harvested.
The trees will be replanted by the incorporation.
Ms Goodhew says the partnership has been important to the development of forestry in the Far North.
She says the next step is the production of a Northland Economic Action Plan.
