Kura kaupapa graduate an outstanding example of a new generation
A doctoral student looking at the way Maori-speaking teenagers are using te reo Maori has been appointed to the Maori Language Commission.
Hinurewa Poutu from Ngati Rangi, Te Ati Haunui-a-Paparangi, and Ngati Maniapoto has been appointed for a three year term.
Maori Development Minister Te Ururoa Flavell says the kura kaupapa Maori graduate is an outstanding example of the new generation of Maori language speakers who have grown up immersed in Maori culture and language.
Former commissioner Ruka Broughton has been appointed for six months to fill in for Poia Rewi, who is the commission’s acting chief executive.
