Massey keen to recruit Maori
Massey University is stepping up its attempts to enrol more Maori students.
Maori student recruitment adviser Kemp Reweti says high school pupils need more than a single campus visit to decide if they want to continue their studies at tertiary level.
He’s planning an event each term ending with a whanau evening in term four.
The first event, A Day in the Life @ MU, put year 13 pupils from a number of Manawatu schools in front of a group of Maori mentors.
The mentors will keep in touch with the participants during the year via social media and create a Massey whanau for them before they enrol.
Next term the pupils will attend the annual celebration of Maori graduates, which Mr Reweti says is always inspiring to students, staff, graduates, and whanau.
