No salvation in government sell off
Labour leader Andrew Little says the Salvation Army’s refusal to buy in to the Government’s state housing sell-off means the policy needs a complete rethink.
The pressure is likely to go on other community agencies and iwi as the Government tries to achieve its target of 20 percent of social housing being provided by the non-government sector.
Deputy Prime Minister Bill English has indicated property developers could be involved, and buyers could be given more flexibility about what they do with the houses.
Mr Little says the government shouldn’t be walking away from housing.
Andrew Little says there are not enough resources in the community housing sector to pick up so large chunk of state houses, so it is likely they will wind up in the hands of property developers.
