Peters challenges Key excuse
New Zealand First leader Winston Peters refuses to cop any blame for derailing reform of the Resource Management Act.
Prime Minister John Key says his Government's proposed changes are on the back burner because Mr Peters' win in the Northland by-election means it no longer has the votes.
The Maori Party fears economic progress will override environmental protection to the detriment of Maori interests, and United Future's Peter Dunne is also unconvinced radical reform is necessary.
Mr Peters says it's not an issue National campaigned on in 2014, but now it blames everyone else for lack of progress.
Winston Peters says if planning law doesn't protect the environment, there is no point having a law at all.
