Tainui environment planning wins award
The chair of Waikato Tainui’s Te Arataura executive is welcoming national recognition for the tribe’s environmental management plan.
Tai Timu, Tai Pari, Tai Ao won the New Zealand Planning Institute's Best Practice Award for excellence in strategic planning and guidance.
Rahui Papa says the tribe worked with other stakeholders, including the New Zealand Transport Authority and the Waikato Regional Council, with the intention of laying down some clear directions.
"It outlines how Waikato Tainui have used the environment and if anyone wants to do environmental aspects within our tribal area then this is how you might mitigate some of the things that the tribe will need to discuss with you," he says.
