Moana home to run iwi
Aotearoa Fisheries loss could be Ngati Porou’s gain.
Te Runanganui o Ngati Porou has netted Dean Moana as its new chief executive.
He replaces Teepa Wawatai, who was in the job for 18 months.
Mr Moana’s work with accounting firm Ernst and Young advising Te Ohu Kaimoana led to him taking over management of the fisheries commission’s Pacific Marine Farms subsidiary in 1999.
For the past decade he has headed Aotearoa Fisheries’ Prepared Foods subsidiary, which handles the company’s abalone business as well as expanding into the supply of rations for the New Zealand and British armies.
He also holds directorships on various companies including Ngati Porou Fisheries.
Mr Moana has whakapapa to Ngai Tane, Whanau-a-Takimoana, Whanau-a-Hinepare and was raised in Rangitukia by his grandmother Tawai Moana.
