Awatere new manager for MWWL
The Maori Women’s Welfare League today welcomed Hinemoa Awatere as its new general manager.
President Prue Kapua says she brings a strong management base along with research, writing, strategy and policy skills.
She says her commitment to te reo and mana wahine will be welcomed by league members throughout Aotearoa as she supports them in their work to promote the wellbeing of Maori women and their whanau.
For the past year Ms Awatere has been principal funding advisor at Te Taura Whiri I Te Reo Maori.
Before that she worked for many years as a research facilitator at the Crown Forestry Rental Trust.
She has also written a book about her grandfather, Maori Battalion commander Lieutenant Colonel Arapeta Awatere.
The previous manager, Awhimai Reynolds, was asked to leave in January for unspecified reasons.
