Te Runanga a Iwi o Ngapuhi has told parliament's social services committee the Oranga Tamariki (Children, Young, Person and their Families) Bill isn't what Ngapuhi needs or expects.
Chair Raniera Tau says more work is needed on the Bill to reflect the role that whanau, hapu and iwi are expected to play in the raising of tamariki, even in difficult circumstances.
He says Ngapuhi agrees with Minister Anne Tolley the safety of tamariki is paramount, but as a treaty partner it wants the Crown to work with the iwi as partners for the health and wellbeing of tamariki and whanau.Copyright © 2017, UMA Broadcasting Ltd: www.waateanews.com
