A man suffering from chronic emphysema is urging whanau living with terminal illness to design critical care plans.

Arthur Te Anini says advance or critical care plans give peace of mind to the sufferer and care givers.

He says Maori find it difficult to talk about nearing end of life care but for Arthur it's given him a new lease on life.

" I can now get on with living, I don't even worry about dying anymore. I have a chronic condition it can't be cured but it can be managed. I've got my advanced care plan now and I'm out here living", says Arthur Te Anini.
