Rotorua's Tamaki Māori Village has won the Golden Backpack Award for best indigenous experience throughout Australasia for the third year in a row.

Director Doug Tamaki sees the award as recognition for the 21 years of hard work the whānau firm has put into the tourism industry.

Voting was done exclusively online, with almost 20,000 votes received from backpackers and independent travellers.

Dirty Politics
OPINION: What a fascinating last couple of weeks it’s been in politics. There seems no doubt that the entry of Kim Dotcom into national politics has created a frenzy never seen before.
Talent might not be enough
OPINION: Lately I have been mediating political debates on behalf of Maori Radio.
Race Card Time
OPINION: You know there is an election on when politicians start playing the race card. And that’s what’s been happening over the last few weeks.
