Windows in reo wins prize

Technology giant Microsoft has won a Māori Language Award for its collaboration with language experts to create Te Reo versions of it its products.

Product champion Anne Taylor says the 10-year project involved creating Māori terms for 2000 technology-related terms, and 100,000 phrases were translated.

People who install the free downloads of Windows, Office and Internet Explorer will see Te Reo Māori on the menus, the help that appears when they pause their mouse pointers over buttons and their computer settings.
