Trustee searches for lessees online

The Māori Trustee has turned to the Internet to increase demand for leasing Māori land.

The manager of its property business, Brae Watkins, says properties for lease administered by the trustee are now posted online.

He says finding the right lessee for a block of land is critical for delivering the best sustainable returns for owners.

The trustee has about 2000 blocks under administration.

Mr Brae says leasing is not just about the financial returns, as for some blocks the owners may also be concerned about the improvements a particular lessee may make, or about their willingness to protect waahi tapu.
