Ten year check for Indigenous Declaration
Some of New Zealand’s top academics and Maori who have taken issues to international forums will today assess what progress has been made in the decade since the united Nations agreed on the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
The sold-out conference at Te Papa in Wellington tomorrow and is being jointly hosted by the Human Rights Commission and Massey University’s Global Centre for Indigenous Leadership.
Chief Human Rights Commissioner David Rutherford says there are still significant gaps in the implementation of the declaration in Aotearoa New Zealand.
The conference is an opportunity to identify what’s needed to achieve the ends of the Declaration and improve realisation of indigenous rights in this country.
