Jones' hate speech made heart drop

The creator of a petition calling for Sir Bob Jones to be stripped of his knighthood says people can lodge complains with the Human Rights Commission if they feel affected by his comments.
The property magnate has threatened to sue Renae Maehi over the petition, which was a reaction to a newspaper column which proposed creating a Maori Gratitude Day in place of Waitangi Day.
Sir Robert says it was satire, but Ms Maihi says his words made her heart drop.
"I’ve actually got a drama degree and I know what satire is. That is not satire. It is hate speech as defined by the Human Rights Act. Satire is meant to be funny. It was not funny. It hurt a lot of people and he has been doing this for many, many, many years," she says.
The change.org online petition now has more than 50,000 signatures.Copyright © 2018, UMA Broadcasting Ltd: www.waateanews.com
