Maori firms make technology contest
Two companies that use technology to address issues relating to the re-invigoration of te reo Maori have made the finals of the New Zealand Hi-Tech Awards.
Kiwa Digital’s work to speed up the dubbing of cartoons into te reo led to the development of develop a suite of post-production tools which it is now selling to film, television and digital content producers around the world working with a multitude of languages.
It is in the running for the Callaghan Innovation Maori Innovation Award, along with education software developer Code Avengers, Nikora Ngaropo Motion & Design, managed IT provider Origins Software, visual data analytics platform Takiwa and cloud-based translation service Straker Translations.
Straker is also nominated for the PwC Hi-Tech Company of the Year award.
The winners will be announced at a gala dinner at the Horncastle Arena in Christchurch on May 25.
