Manurewa MP and former player Louisa Wall says the gold medal winning performance by the New Zealand women's sevens should silence any detractors of women's rugby.

She says the Commonwealth Games final, in which Kelly Brazier ran the length of the field to score after Nanaia Williams had stopped an almost certain Australian try, was the best sevens game she has seen in her life.

"Tyla Nathan-Warren got knocked out in the warm up which is why she wasn't playing and obviously the Aussies had some injuries as well but it was a classic match so if anyone has still got any doubts about women playing rugby and how we play rugby and sevens for that matter, hopefully that game has silenced our fiercest critics," Ms Wall says.

She says New Zealand has the talent to come back quickly in netball, but something needs to change in the Silver Ferns before the next world championships.
