Davidson seeking cut through in leadership contest
Nominations for the Greens co-leadership have closed, with Marama Davidson and Julie Anne Genter in a race to fill the slot vacated by Metiria Turei before the election.
Ms Davidson says as an MP outside Cabinet she is able to be an independent voice for the party and one who can reach across the diverse communities needed to grow the Greens base.
She says the Green story includes social, economic and environmental vision, with Te Tiriti o Waitangi part of its foundation.
It needs to be relevant and present to Maori, which is the role she has been able to play.
"Our challenge is to get cut though with our message. There is no better way to get cut through than having our kaupapa Maori front and center including in our co-leadership model," she says.
Marama Davidson and Julie-Anne Genter will campaign until March 26 when delegates will start casting their ballots, with the winner to be announced on Sunday April 8.
