Green light for Waatea housing
Manukau Urban Māori Authority has secured resource consents to start work on up to 90 housing units at Ngā Whare Waatea in Mangere.
Chief executive Wyn Osborne says the project will strengthening the services the authority can offer.
He says by including a mix of emergency and social housing on the site, whānau can become stabilised in good quality housing and start putting plans in place.
"So first it’s around stabilisation and second it's beginning to be able to equip the whānau to step off into other types of housing, perhaps independent, perhaps private, perhaps having help to counter the true cost of transience, the cost of upheaval, the cost of having to change school, the cost of increased transportation," Mr Osborne says.
Work on the houses should start in spring.
