Shared equity policy priority for Mahuta
The new Associate Minister for Housing says the Government is excited at some of the shared equity models being developed at iwi level.
Nanaia Mahuta will lead a unit in the new Ministry of Housing and Urban Development focused on Māori housing outcomes.
Her own ministry Te Puni Kōkiri is also working with iwi and Māori trusts to explore new housing and funding models.
She says iwi with settlement assets are looking at housing, from tackling homelessness to helping whānau into home ownership.
"It is something the Government has signalled if there is futher potential to partner in to shared equity schemes to bring down the cost of homes tro ensure affordable means affordable, that is something we will pursue and we are working on a shared equity policy at the moment," Ms Mahuta says.
