More in pot for teachers
The Education Ministry has upped its offer to primary teachers and says changes it is making across a range of areas should address many of their concerns.
Education secretary Iona Holsted says the latest offer is a 9.3 per cent wage increase, which brings the total cost of the offer to settle the collective agreements to $569 million.
The Government removed national standards because teachers said it significantly contributed to their workload.
She says the ministry is working with teachers and principals to reduce their workload, improve teacher wellbeing and plan a medium to long-term workforce strategy.
It is also refreshing the Māori education strategy Ka Hikitia and the Māori language in education strategy, Tau Mai Te Reo.
