Orange Sky brings showers to Auckland homeless

An Australian charity that provides services for the homeless has come to Aotearoa.

Orange Sky this week launched a customised van that will provide free mobile laundry and shower services as well as conversation for rough sleepers across Auckland.

The service is partly funded by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.

Minister Phil Twyford says while superficially the service is about clean clothes and showers, the main benefits are the social interactions, the conversations and the opportunity for social services to reach out to rough sleepers.

The Orange Sky van will be operated by New Zealanders and work alongside other providers including Housing First.

Our damaged, racist Prison Industry is the legacy of hate and spite as social policy
Martyn 'Bomber' Bradbury: 32 years after the Roper Report told us that our Prison system wasn't working by jailing and punishing too many, we get another Justice Advisory report once again highlighting our debased prison system as deeply damaging, deeply racist and deeply counter productive.
