Second Tainui hotel for Auckland Airport
The Maaori king Tuuheitia Potatau Te Wherowhero VII, and Waikato Tainui elders have blessed the site of the second hotel for the Iwi at Auckland International Airport.
The nine-storey Te Arikinui Pullman Hotel will stand alongside the existing Novotel Tainui Auckland Airport Hotel.
Tainui Group Holdings and Auckland Airport Ltd are working with architects Warren and Mahoney to infuse unique Waikato Tainui cultural elements into the design, emphasising the connection between land, sea and sky through the use of natural materials and light.
Te Whakakitenga o Waikato chair Parekaawhia McLean says the design is inspired by the historical links of Tainui waka at Te Manukanuka o Hoturoa, or Manukau Harbour.
Tainui Group chief executive Chris Joblin says with around 40 million passenger movements forecast by 2040 the company believes it will be an enduring investment to support the economic resilience of Waikato Tainui.
