Entrepreneur and environmentalist Rob Fenwick is being remembered for his contribution to Māori enterprise.
Sir Rob died of cancer yesterday aged 68.
He started his career in radio journalism and public relations before launching businesses including Living Earth Ltd, the NZ Natural bottled water brand and Te Matuku Oysters.
He also chaired environmental organisations including Antarctica New Zealand and World Wildlife Foundation NZ and advocated for sustainability in businesses such as Air New Zealand.
Former Mai FM chief executive Graham Pryor says the Fenwick whānau has a long association with Orākei Marae, which was extended when he was asked to chair the iwi’s radio interests.
"A genuine gentlemen Rob and fantastic fellow to work with. He had your back the whole time, calm, very deliberate, but very passionate about what he was doing at Mai FM – giving us assistance and using his background in the radio business and as a journalist. He was a key part of setting up our te reo Māori station, Ruia Mai, which ran for about a decade.," he says.
Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei is welcoming Sir Rob Fenwick on to the marae from 11 am Saturday and the family requests that anyone who would like to personally farewell Rob take this opportunity to join them.
