Museum-reo link earns Kawharu Scholarship
A doctoral student working on a Marsden-funded project on what part galleries, libraries, archives and museums play in the revitalisation of te reo Maori has been awarded the Sir Hugh Kawharu Scholarship.
The $10,000 scholarship, offered annually by the Kawharu Foundation in partnership with Auckland Museum, supports Māori research in the field of cultural heritage.
Tracy Maniapoto is studying at Massey University’s Te Pūtahi-a-Toi.
She affiliates to Ngāti Tūwharetoa, Te Atihaunui-ā-Pāpārangi and Ngāti Kahungunu ki Te Wairoa.
She says she is keen to work with the team and collections at Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland War Memorial Museum, where she will explore what adult second language learners have to say about how they use cultural heritage institutions.
