Covid care packages ready for distribution
The North Island Whānau Ora Commissioning Agency expects to distribute 10,000 hygiene and sanitation packs for needy families this week, and another 20,000 in the following two weeks.
Chair Merepeka Raukawa-Tait says yesterday’s announcement of $15 million in extra funding for the three commissioning agencies to respond to Covid-19 is a good start, and her agency was ready to move.
She says for many families, cleaning products were considered a luxury.
Whānau Ora providers were also able to reach those Māori who did not engage with the health system, with many living in isolated rural communities.
