Marae booking business offering authentic experience
A Te Arawa entrepreneur hopes his new online platform can be Maoridom's answer to Airbnb
Brevis Woflgramm says 17 marae have so far agreed to open up for Book a Marae.
The target market is families, tourist groups, sports teams, and school groups looking for accommodation and an authentic Māori experience.
He got the idea after attending a Te Puni Kōkiri tourism hui where a guest speaker form Airbnb was asked about industry trends.
"When he said small group bookings and authentic experiences, I thought 'jeez, that sounds like a marae,'" Mr Wolfgramm says.
Book A Marae can also help marae with collective purchasing of essentials like kai and mattresses to bring down their costs.
