The chief executive of Taranaki iwi Te Ātiawa's post settlement governance entity is moving on after six years.

Chair Liana Poutu says Hemi Sundgren has steered Te Kotahitanga o Te Ātiawa through its crucial establishment period.

He has established strategic partnerships and worked closely with the commercial company to optimise property and settlement rights to ensure a stable foundation for the trust, which now has a diversified portfolio of assets worth $110m.

He also oversaw the development of the Ka Uruora programme which includes a whānau savings programme, financial education programme and a housing programme to support whānau to enter home ownership.

Mr Sundgren starts his new role at Tourism NZ in October 2020.
