Recovered and Active Cases

There are 1118 recovered cases and a new low of 325. This massive 63% decline since the peak of 930 active cases on April 6, is a real achievement of the lockdown. We need active cases to drop below 50 by the end of Level 3.

There are 15 days to 11 May when the government will decide whether to stay at Level 3 or move down to Level 2 or even 1. Subject to there being no undetected pockets of community transmission and satisfactory testing in the regions and among Māori and Pacific Peoples communities, on the current trend, active cases could reduce to around 100 cases within 7 days and below 50 by 11 May.

5,134 tests were processed yesterday. Total testing is 115,015 at 23,000 tests per million. This is heading toward the right territory by international standards. Subject to any yet undiscovered pockets of community transmission in the regions, we are on top of COVID-19.

Not including small independent territories, our testing compares well with the top rates of testing per million of the population in other countries. Israel, Estonia, Lithuania, Portugal, Norway and Switzerland are above 30,000 tests per million. We are rapidly approaching that level. Our next goal should be 25,000 tests per million then 30,000 tests per million.

Māori Cases

There is 1 new Māori case. The total is 125. We are now 8.6% of all cases. In the last 9 days, new cases have run 2-1-0-2-1-0-0-0-1. This is positive. There is thorough testing in the 4 DHBs of Auckland and the Waikato, but under-testing in several regions, 8 of which are priorities.

Pacific Peoples Cases

There is 1 new Pacific case. The total is 70. Pacific remain steady at 4.7% of all cases but still below demographic. Over the last 11 days, new cases have run 1-1-1-1-1-0-0-1-1-1-1. This is positive.

National's passive racism highlighted in Muller reshuffle
Martyn 'Bomber' Bradbury: If you intend to take over a political party, your motivation to do so should be driven by a deep political belief that you have better ideas than the current leadership and that those ideas are filled with so many self-evident truths that your disloyalty is forgiven and a better set of ideas put in place under your leadership and authority.

THE NEW ZEALAND SITUATION: The main figures inspire confidence that New Zealand has gained a good degree of control over COVID-19.
What latest Poll means for the Maori Party?
Martyn 'Bomber' Bradbury: TVNZs latest Poll shows the same trend the TV3 Poll did, the National Party is in meltdown as the country thanks Jacinda for saving us from the public health pandemic nightmare we are witnessing in other countries.
