Maori Party new opportunity for Pokere-Phillips
Former Opportunities Party board member Donna Pokere-Phillips has been selected to stand for the Māori Party in the Hauraki-Waikato electorate.
In the last election, she contested Hamilton West for TOP, and in 1999 she was the Alliance candidate for Port Waikato.
She has a legal and research background and runs a business, environmental and employment consultancy.
She says as a mother and grandmother she has never been afraid of standing up to those who would want to block Māori progress.
Party president Che Wilson says the party was now in a healthy position heading into the September election with candidates confirmed for five of the seven Māori seats.
He says the COVID-19 crisis has united Māori as a people and the Māori Party’s candidates have led the Māori response and will lead the Māori recovery as well.
