Weekend partiers put COVID recovery at risk
The Director-General of Health has warned that people breaching COVID-19 Alert Level 3 restrictions could slow the move to Level 2.
That’s despite there being only two new cases reported yesterday, both being household contacts of an employee at St Margaret's rest home in Te Atatu where there has been a cluster of people infected.
Dr Ashley Bloomfield says it’s crucial all New Zealanders stay vigilant and follow the guidelines of physical distancing, keeping to their bubbles, practising good hand hygiene and if they’re unwell, staying away from others and seeking medical advice.
He says a week into Level 3, everyone should now be more familiar with the rules, both around increased retail activity and social interactions.
On Friday evening and police received almost 700 reports from the public of people breaching restrictions.
They took enforcement action against more than 100 for breaches of either the Health Act or the Civil Defence Emergency Act since alert level 3 came into force, prosecuting 135 and warning 342.
