New Zealand First leader Winston Peters says his party has delivered for Māori.

The party is fighting low polling numbers and the effect of a Serious Fraud Office investigation into the New Zealand First Foundation, which led to charges being laid against two people who are not current party members or officials.

That has overshadowed what he says the party has done out in the regions and for Māori while it has been in government.

"Funding for the Māori Women's Welfare League. We did that and nobody knows that. We also gave huge support to the Māori wardens and we will get further support because they are so essential, and kapa haka was set up by us. There's a lot of things we have done and I want to remind people when you look at New Zealkand First against the narrative alongside the performance it is totally different, and there has been some huge progress like the biggest mussel farm in the world being set up Opōtiki that will be great for Māori in that part of the world as well," Mr Peters says.
