Maori development skills tapped for workforce groups
Leaders with hands on experience in Māori development are among the co-chair appointments for the permanent Regional Skills Leadership Groups announced today.
Social Development and Employment Minister Carmel Sepuloni says the group will become a key part of how government addresses future skills and workforce needs in the regions.
They have been asked to identify what change is needed from regional and national stakeholders to achieve a high-skill labour market.
Each group has two co-chairs, one nominated through an Expressions of Interest process and the other selected in consultation with regional iwi and Māori.
In Tāmaki Makaurau, the co-chairs are Awerangi Tamihere from the Waipareira Trust and unionist Robert Reid, while in Waikato they are Brendon Green and Maniapoto chair Keith Ikin.
Other Māori co-chairs include Toa Faneva in Taitokerau, Chris Tooley in Bay of Plenty, Apryll Parata in Tairāwhiti, Daphne Luke in Wellington and Ngāi Tahu chair Lisa Tumahai in West Coast.
