An action plan to transform the communities of Raetihi, Ohakune and Waiouru is making positive changes in the region.

The Ruapehu Whanau Transformation Plan was launched 2 years ago.

Erena Mikaere-Most says focusing on education, employment, housing, health and social well-being the iwi led project is seeing major sustainable improvements across the whole community.

The local people have also been working alongside government agencies.

Erena Mikaere-Most says the Ngati Rangi led initiatives have included developing a Warrant of Fitness model for housing, a careers expo and planning a conference centre.
