KT always ready with a good yarn
A storyteller whose story has ended.
Broadcaster and teacher Te Kotuku Tibble from Ngati Porou died yesterday after a long illness.
As an adult Mr Tibble became a keen student of te reo and tikanga and shadowed kaumatua to record their knowledge.
He shared some of that in Maori Television documentaries and was a frequent contributor to Radio Waatea.
Fellow programme maker Bailey Mackey says his cousin loved a good story.
"He was always really keen to share a yarn with you which meant being the butt of his joke. Kotuku rang me one day and asked me to be his best man which I accepted only to discover I was about the 11th that he asked," he says.
Te Kotuku Tibble is survived by his wife Karen Te o Kahurangi Waaka and daughter Hinetauira.
Kotuku will be at Te Tikanga Marae on Tokorangi Road in Halcombe.
He will be laid to rest with his mothers people of Ngati Waewae and Ngati Pikiahu. Kotuku was also staunchly Ngati Porou on his fathers side
