You can have a hui for a hundred from Friday - but make sure you take everyone’s name.

That’s the guidance from yesterday’s cabinet meeting looking at easing some of the restrictions for Level 2.

They came on a day when New Zealand again recorded no new cases of COVID-19, with just 27 cases now considered active.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says Friday was chosen for the change because some religious communities normally congregate on that day.

Churches can resume services and the number of mourners attending funerals and tangi can also go up to the new limit.

Hospitality venues will still need to ensure physical distancing, including keeping people seated with dancing not allowed.

Cabinet will check alert level 2 settings again on June 8, and in four weeks on June 22, it will look at whether the country should move to alert level 1.

If you are frightened by the COVID virus, wait until you hear about the latest from the climate crisis
Martyn 'Bomber' Bradbury: While the New Zealand mainstream media are focused on attacking the Government over failures at the border, there is a far larger threat to New Zealand that is rapidly approaching us with almost no fanfare.
