The leader of New Zealand's newest political party has the blues about this country's response to COVID-19.

Guitarist Billy Te Kahika junior says he formed the New Zealand Public Party after seeing the way his Facebook sermons on the pandemic went viral.

He says his army training in intelligence methods convinced him the public wasn't being given the true facts about the coronavirus.

Other red flags were New Zealand's COVID-19 response legislation, including allowing health officials to go on to marae, and the government's support for the goals of the United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

"Where this is all going is Jacinda wants to sign us up to the UN programme Agenda 2030 and that's a complete destruction of kiwi freedoms and democracy. It will destroy the treaty and it will destroy te ao Māori and the things we love to do like rongoā," Mr Te Kahika says.

The New Zealand Public Party signed up the 500 members needed for registration within two days, and is now the country's fastest ever growing political party.
