Labour MP Louisa Wall says her fights are the party’s fights, even if some of her colleagues resent her for them.

Ms Wall, who stepped away from a contested selection for her Manurewa seat to take a high place on the party list, has gone public about the sexism, homophobia and racism she has encountered in parliament.

She says her marriage equality legislation upset some colleagues, especially those with religious convictions, but it was Labour Party policy that she was mandated to lead.

"Fighting for LGBT rights is one of the things the Labour Party is most proud of. Addressing issues of discrimination and is inequality and what we are made of. That's why our orientation towards worker rights, fighting against the powerful, making sure we have the living wage and we are renumerated and there is an equal share. That have at the heart of what Labour stands for, so if people don't like the way I do my job, that is their problem, to be honest," Ms Wall says.
