Ngāti Awa hooks CEO from wānanga

Ngāti Awa Group Holdings has appointed Tracey Hook as its new chief executive officer.

Ms Hook, from Te Ati Haunui a Pāpārangi and Ngā Wairiki is currently Te Wānanga o Aotearoa's executive director finance, and was previously group financial controller at Tainui Group Holdings.

Ngati Awa Group Holdings chair Paul Quinn says she has a huge understanding of investment, audit and risk management in the commercial, property and iwi sectors, and she has a passion and commitment to Māori development and economic growth.

Since the Whakatane-based iwi received its $42 million settlement in 2005, it has more than tripled its iwi asset base to $151 million.

Its investments include White Island Tours, farms and forestry.

The previous chief executive was Geoff Hamilton.
